YRSF Fights Hunger again…this time with a few friends!

Spring has sprung and there’s no better time than now to help out those in need.  YRSF is fighting hunger once again in support of the Daily Bread Food Bank but this time we’ve got some friends helping out:

YRSF has joined forces with TorontoTopTiers and A & C Games/World to Fight Hunger by collecting non-perishable food items in support of The Daily Bread Food Bank.

There will be two large collection boxes set up at A & C World throughout the month of April.  So when you drop by for a tournament or casual gaming on the hype Wednesday sessions hosted by TorontoTopTiers, Mondays for niche gaming, or any other day of the week, please remember to bring in some non-perishable food items to drop off.

We have registered the food drive on the Daily Bread website and have set a goal of raising 250 pounds of food and/or $500.00.  Please help us to reach our goal!  You can also make a cash donation in lieu of food items here:

http://dbfb.convio.net/site/TR/Events/General?team_id=3990&pg=team&fr_id=1200

Feel free to join the Team and ask others to participate.

Thanks so much everyone and remember that every little bit helps!

Daily Bread Food Bank thanks YRSF for Fighting Hunger

During the hectic Holiday Season YRSF held a food drive to support the Daily Bread Food Bank as we collected non-perishable food items during casual sessions at Heroes World.  We received a wonderful acknowledgement and thank you letter in the mail and wanted to share it with everyone.

A big thank you to everyone who took the time to make a donation.  You should be proud in knowing that you’ve made a difference for those in need.  Together we managed to raise over 150 pounds of food!

Thank you all again!

Weekend Wrap-Up: 2 Big Events, 2 Much Hype!

This past weekend competitive gaming was at its best in the GTA and beyond as T.O.Joe and Gichan hosted the “Revival of Salt” Smash Brawl Tournament in Whitby, and TorontoTopTiers presented their second iteration of the Smash Up Tournament in Smash Up II featuring UMVC3, SSFIV:AE, Soul Calibur V, KOFXIII and others.

Team YRSF was in attendance competing at both events and our primary sponsor Omega Collectables was also on-site showcasing gaming goods for the masses.

The Revival of Salt (RoS) tournament brought plenty of hype featuring Smash Brawl singles, doubles, and a Canada Vs. USA Crew Battle.  Gaming Ottawa was in attendance providing assistance with brackets, set ups and the event featured sponsorships from the local FGC mainstays- Omega Collectables and A&C Games.

The event drew a contingent of players not only from the U.S. but also from the East Coast of Canada with Nova Scotia Brawl players in attendance.  The jam-packed venue was electric with great commentary and stream provided by VGBootCamp. If you missed any of the action you can catch it here: http://www.twitch.tv/vgbootcamp.  Full results and brackets are available in the results thread on smashboards.

[YRSF]Tin Man had a strong showing coming in 7th place for Singles, and 5th in Doubles. Congrats Tinaye!

TorontoTopTiers managed to draw over 150 players to compete and spectate across a myriad of tournaments at the Primrose Hotel in Toronto.  Pot bonuses and raffle prizes were aplenty with support for the event coming from A & C Games, GDLK Apparel, and Omega Collectables.

The stream featured some beefed-up graphics that were a really nice touch.  Kudos to TTT and Vince “RXS” Hui for the hard work they put in making this an impressive event to watch.  Here’s a quick glimpse of what the action looked like on stream:

Team YRSF threw their collective hats into the foray with BlitzMan, Raynex, and NickCam all competing.

[YRSF]BlitzMan managed to secure a hard fought 2nd place in AE:2012 getting ousted from top spot by the one and only SpiralGuy.

[YRSF]Raynex took home 1st place in KOFXIII in what was a small but highly competitive bracket.

[YRSF]NickCam landed a 5th place finish in UMVC3 with some ridiculous Haggar tech!

Full results are available on the SRK thread and archived footage from the event will be on the TorontoTopTiers YouTube channel.

No casuals at Heroes World on Feb 8th and 15th

Just a quick notice that there will be no Wednesday Casual sessions at Heroes World on Feb 8th and 15th.  We will be returning on Feb 22nd.  Hope to see everyone come out tonight for the last session before the break.

Double Barrel Jan 21st Wrap-up and Afterthoughts

The Double Barrel Tournament presented by YRSF took place this past Saturday, Jan 21st at A & C World in Toronto.  What an amazing turnout!  Over 120 competitors and spectators squeezed their way into a jam packed venue to bear witness to some truly exciting matches as part of the Underdog Redux UMVC3 & SSFIV: AE2012 singles tournaments and the first (hopefully  not last) Chivalry is Dead – Femme Fatales Ladies-only AE events.

The first Underdog tournament took place several months ago, on a much smaller scale featuring only SSFIV: AE and was subject to a bracket cap.  Based on the response and feedback from the first event, we knew we would have to run it back.   Little did we know the response for “Redux” would have garnered the tremendous support it did.  For that, we thank you so much and do hope to see all of you again at not only subsequent YRSF events, but also other tournaments taking place in the GTA and Ontario.

The Ladies-only tournament managed to draw five competitors which was a little disappointing but we look forward to seeing more Lady Gamers come out for future events.  Some of the matches that took place during this small bracket definitely exceeded peoples expectations and created a lot of hype for the onlookers.  Kudos to all the gamer gals who made their way out to compete and congratulations to Emily Chow for winning the event.

We were so happy to once again work with a great group of people from our community.  Although this was a YRSF hosted event, it could not have been the success that it was had it not been for the gracious support from TorontoTopTiers, GDLK Apparel, A & C Games, Heroes World Comics, Help Computer Consulting, Omega Collectables, and of course the myriad of volunteers who helped out with commentary, bracket running, and organization.  There’s a dedicated group of small businesses that have been committed to supporting our local FGC – please show them some love by liking their Facebook pages, checking out their websites, or just drop by their shops.

For those of you who weren’t able to attend the event, Vince “RXS” Hui of TorontoTopTiers not only provided the amazing stream but has uploaded match videos on their YouTube Channel.  Be sure to check them out!  Thanks again Vince!

We’ve got a collection of photos from the event posted on our Facebook page and the official results thread is up on Shoryuken.

If this was your first event let’s hope it wasn’t your last.  If you’ve already been coming out to compete in tournaments, keep coming out (and encourage others to do the same).  There is simply no shortage of opportunity for players to play casually, level up their game, and meet some great people while doing so.  Just drop by one of the venues that host weekly gaming events to get in on the action:

  • YRSF gatherings typically take place every Wednesday night at Heroes World in Markham.
  • For those of you in Toronto be sure to check out A & C World
  • Students at York/Seneca/UofT - regularly scheduled casual sessions are taking place, check out SRK and Facebook to get in on the action:
  • if you’re in the Kitchener/Waterloo area check out BisonsAutoshop for weekly casuals and ranbats.
  • it’s not just about Capcom love, there’s tremendous support for other games such as Smash, KOF, and more.

Daddy Omega signing out.  GGS.

We needed a Hero for the Double Barrel, now we’ve got one!

Long time supporter of the local FGC, Heroes World Comics located in Markham has graciously donated some awesome raffle prizes for this Saturday’s Double Barrel event.

We’ve got two sets of Marvel Vs Capcom 3 Mini Mate figures along with two 10% coupons to be used in store valid until the end of February 2012.

Heroes World plays host to our weekly casual sessions on Wednesday evenings and have been on-going avid supporters of the Ontario FGC hosting Tournaments and other special events.  Please make sure to check them out on the web, Facebook or drop-in to say hello.  If you’re a Comic book or collectible gaming fan they’ve got your fix with a huge selection of merchandise to peruse.

Thanks Heroes World!

You say Tomato…Stay on my Eye of Agamotto!

The Old Man Omega himself has put together a combo video for UMVC3 that features ways to incorporate Magneto’s Attraction and Gravitation special moves into a combo using the Eye of Agamotto assist.  They’re nowhere near a touch of death combo but if you pull them off during a match, some style points will definitely come your way.

Check it out.

The Double Barrel Tournament Jan 21st just got GDLK!

We’re happy to announce that our friends over at GDLK Apparel will be supporting the Double Barrel Tournament on Jan 21st by being on-site at A & C World during the event.  They will have a table set up showcasing some of their fantastic apparel for all the Fighting Game fans.

In addition they have offered up some great raffle prizes in the form of the winners choice of any garment from their table!  Thanks so much!

Be sure to visit them on the web and Facebook  to show some love.   Don’t forget to check in on the Double Barrel official SRK Tournament thread for additional updates
